In Bodhi-ment
noun [ boh-dee ]: supreme knowledge or enlightenment.
While most frequently referenced in Buddhism, the word bodhi has followed me everywhere. It’s what we’re all trying to attain, what we’re each trying to claim, what we hope the words we absorb are soaked in. I think it’s a beautiful concept, albeit even if it breaks down when trying to decide what—or who—is ultimately at the top.
So I hold this word in a different way. Bodhi. Body. Sense it. Find the presence of knowledge. Stalk it and hunt it down if you must, because I believe it’s not just contained in the mind but something that moves within our framework. Enlightenment is not “out there” but in here, an inner resonance of knowing. It’s the place where words are rendered superfluous and the mortal and immaterial are one.
Have you ever felt like you’re radiating in all directions? Like a sun that’s hidden in the night.
Bodhi also means awakening. I Am… at home in the first sliver of the dawn.
